Our laboratory services are CLIA certified and COLA Accredited. We perform many types of tests and partner with in-network reference labs for access to specialized testing. Our lab services are offered at all of our primary care locations.

Our Lab Services are Always In-Network with Your Insurance Plan

We will only ever send your blood samples to reference labs (that analyze your samples) that are in-network with your insurance plan. We will never send your samples to an out-of-network reference lab. We only work with labs that are in-network with your insurance.

How to Schedule a Lab Appointment

Your lab appointment will be part of your doctor’s visit. If you have never had an appointment with Healthcare Associates of Texas before, you can call one of our offices to schedule an appointment with a provider and ask for a laboratory test. If you are currently a patient with us, you can schedule a lab-only appointment by calling your doctor’s office.

How to Prepare for Your Blood Draw

There usually is not anything you need to do before your blood draw. Your provider may request that you fast before your blood draw for certain patients.

At your blood draw appointment, please let us know if any of these apply to you:

  • Fainting, pain at blood collection site lasting several days, bruising or swelling at the site
  • Medications that may cause prolonged bleeding (blood thinners such as Coumadin, heparin, aspirin therapy, chemotherapy)
  • Arteriovenous fistula (for dialysis patients)
  • Previous mastectomy or lymph node removal from the armpit area
  • Specific draw sites that have been successful or unsuccessful in the past

What to Expect After Your Blood Draw

After your blood draw, do these things to avoid complications:

  • Apply direct pressure to the draw site 3 to 5 minutes immediately after your blood draw is complete. Bending your arm will not apply enough direct pressure to the actual site.
  • If bruising occurs, apply an ice pack to the area for 5-15 minutes a few times the first hour and avoid using the affected arm. Contact your provider’s office if the bruised area is causing pain and does not subside within a few hours.
  • Avoid using your arm to lift heavy objects for 3-4 hours to avoid dislodging the fibrin clot formed to stop the bleeding. If bleeding does occur, apply pressure with gauze or tissue for 3-5 minutes and then apply a fresh bandage following general first aid rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my blood samples be sent for analysis to an out-of-network lab?

No. We only send your specimens to labs that are in-network with your insurance.

Can I have my samples collected at an HCAT office but request the labs be sent to a different lab?

We partner with Quest, LabCorp, and CPL and can send specimens to preferred labs and perform same-day testing in our Irving North location. Collection fees for services will apply.

What time is the lab open?

The hours of the lab vary by location. Call your provider’s office to confirm lab hours.

Do I have to schedule my lab visit?

In general, we prefer you schedule your lab visit. However, most, but not all, offices can take same-day appointments. Contact your provider’s office to confirm if same-day appointments are available at your preferred clinic location.

Can I bring my baby or child in for lab testing?

We currently refer most pediatric patients to one of our associated lab partner Patient Service Centers that have more experience with little ones.
