URODYNAMICS

Urodymanics is the investigation of functional disorders of the lower urinary tract, i.e. the bladder and the uretha.  Urodynamic studies can be helpful in patients with the following symptoms:

  • Incontinence (urine leakage)
  • Frequent urination
  • Sudden, strong urges to urinate
  • Problems starting the urine stream
  • Painful urination
  • Incomplete bladder emptying
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Symptoms of an enlarged prostate

A series of tests are administered by a specially trained registered nurse in our office and requires minimal preparation from the patient.  The study is simple and non-invasive.  Patients are asked to arrive for the study with a full bladder in order to ensure accurate testing.

Uroflometry is the measurement of urine speed and volume.  This part of the test is simply done by patients urinating as they normally do.  Afterwards, post void residual is measured by means of an ultrasound device indicating the amount of urine left in the bladder after urination.
